How to clean, bandage, and care
- •Follow the printed aftercare sheet you received at the shop. Timing, bandage type, and the product to use are listed there.
- •Wash your hands with soap and water before you touch the tattoo or remove a bandage.
- •Leave the initial bandage on for the time printed on your sheet, then remove it carefully. Do not rip it off dry if the sheet says to loosen it with water.
- •Gently wash the tattoo with warm water and a mild, unscented soap. Do not scrub, and do not use a washcloth or dirty towel on the area.
- •Pat dry with a clean, disposable paper towel or let it air dry. Apply only a thin layer of the aftercare product named on your printed sheet. More is not better.
- •Keep the area clean. Wash as often as your printed sheet directs. Do not pick, scratch, or peel scabs or flakes. Do not let anyone else touch the tattoo with unwashed hands.
Possible side effects
- •A new tattoo commonly feels tender and looks red or slightly swollen. Itching, tightness, scabbing, peeling, and a small amount of plasma, ink, or clear fluid on the bandage can occur during healing.
- •These expected changes are not the same as an infection or an allergic reaction. Compare what you see with the warning signs below and with your printed sheet.
Activity restrictions
- •Do not soak the tattoo (no baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, or ocean) until it is healed, as directed on your printed sheet.
- •Do not tan or put the tattoo in direct sun while it is healing. Cover it with clean, loose clothing outdoors.
- •Avoid tight clothes, belts, or straps that rub the tattoo. Avoid dirty environments and sharing towels or bedding that contact the area.
- •Skip heavy sweating and gym work that soaks the tattoo until your printed sheet says otherwise. Do not pick at the tattoo.
Infection or allergy — when to see a physician
- •Contact a physician if you notice warning signs that are getting worse instead of better: spreading redness, red streaks, increasing pain or heat, swelling that grows after the first day or two, yellow or green pus, fever, or a rash/hives beyond ordinary healing itch.
- •Do not wait on worsening signs. A physician should evaluate possible infection or allergic reaction. Then report the problem to the Southern Nevada Health District using the contact line below.
Expected healing time
- •Healing time varies by size, placement, and your skin. For most tattoos, the surface typically takes about two to four weeks to heal. Deeper layers can take longer. Use the duration printed on the aftercare sheet you were given at Gold Tattoo.

These notes are extra Strip context. They are not a substitute for the SNHD items above or for your printed sheet.
- Sun: desert sun and tanning beds will fade and irritate a healing tattoo. Keep it covered until healed, then use sun protection on healed ink.
- Heat: pool decks, day clubs, and long walks on the Blvd mean sweat and friction. Loose, clean clothing beats a soaked shirt over fresh ink.
- Pools: hotel pools, spas, and the Bellagio fountain spray are still water you should not soak a healing tattoo in.
- Dry climate: Las Vegas air is dry. Do not cake on extra ointment to “fight” dryness — thin layers as your printed sheet says, and stay out of direct AC blast if it dries the scab into cracking.
